Arunodaya Vidyalaya

Swami Vivekananda Arunodaya Vidyalaya (SVAV) makes dreams come true for the young mind through the teachings and principles of Swami Vivekananda. It opens windows of learning and character building and pathways that lead to success, achievements and greater heights in life.

Located in the heart of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, SVAV was established in April 2013 for underprivileged children under the aegis of Sri Hara Kasturi Memorial Trust. Wholly sponsored by Merino Group, SVAV provides inspirational and motivational learning experience in a clean and green environment to students in the hands of qualified teachers.

Although SVAV is a coeducational school, it is predominantly for girl students. It aims to empower them with quality life through better education and other facilities.

Who We Are?

Started with just 15 students in 2013, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the school now enrols students up to class VI and has a total strength of 116 students (2020-21). The school provides an impressive teacher to student ratio of around 1:8 with its existing team of 15 teachers and 12 non-teaching staff.

Set amidst green surroundings, SVAV stands proud as an ideal learning centre. Although SVAV is a coeducational school, it is predominantly for girl students. It aims to empower the students with quality life through better education and better amenities and facilities.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower children to maximise their potential, through value-based education, so that they become a catalyst for change and contribute meaningfully in development of our nation.

Our Vision

Enlightenment, Empowerment and Emancipation through Education.

We believe that children are our future and holistic education of children will bring about the much-needed change – A world where every child is enlightened and empowered with education and spiritual wisdom to take on the challenges of life.

By reaching out to the underprivileged and young minds, SVAV looks forward to unfolding thousands of young ideas, dreams and their fulfilment at their finest.

Our Approach

Swami Vivekananda said, “Education, education, education alone! Travelling through many cities of Europe and observing in them the comforts and education of even the underprivileged people there, was brought to my mind the state of our own underprivileged people, and I used to shed tears. What made the difference? Education was the answer I got.”

The above words of Swami Vivekananda are the guiding force behind starting Swami Vivekananda Arunoday Vidyalay (SVAV). This is a School for children coming from low income and most deprived families who otherwise wouldn’t have the access to quality education.

The school provides not only free education , but also takes care of their mental and physical wellbeing by providing them nutritious meals, school uniforms and textbooks and stationery. However, having limited seats in the school and to reach out to the most deserving candidate, we follow a stringent selection process.

Admission Process

Only 20 students are selected through a rigorous screening process from an average of over 300 applicants based on following criteria:

  • 1st Stage – Personal interview – Interview of the child and her / his parents are conducted to understand the family support and the academic bent of mind of the child.
  • 2nd Stage – Academic performance – Written test is conducted to check on their basic interest level and academic bent of mind.
  • 3rd Stage – Economic Status – Maximum weightage is given to the economic status of the family. We take every effort to reach out to the economically weaker section. Home visits are conducted to understand the economic status of the family.
  • 4th & Final Stage – Adaptability in School Environment – Finally around 35-40 students are invited to attend regular classes for 3 days to understand their adaptability in the school environment and finally 14 girls and 6 boys are selected.

Class size – 20 students in each classroom, so that the teacher can provide individual attention to each child.

Co-education – Females have less opportunities than male children. To inculcate a healthy relation among female and male students and to develop respect for each other, we maintain a ratio of 14 girls and 6 boys in each classroom.

Student Teacher Ratio – The student / teacher ratio is an indicator of educational quality. The quality of education suffers in crowded classrooms. At SVAV we have a student teacher ratio of 1:8.

After School Support Program – The school has plans to provide financial assistance (school fees and books) and academic support through structured coaching to students graduating from SVAV to continue their higher education up to 12th standard.

Support to other deserving students – Having limited seats in our school we are unable to accommodate all the needy children in our school, however, if there are some very deserving children who have the potential and are unable to pursue their education due to economic reasons, we provide them financial support to get admission in some of the other good schools in Hapur.
